The Application of Flat-back Airfoil on Megawatt Wind Turbine Blade

  By using the CFD software,numerical study on 3 airfoils with relative thickness 40%,35%,30% respectively,which are added thickness at trailing edge,has been carried out.The computation results have been compared to the experimental data of loading coefficients and shown the same tendency as the experiment.Then,the effect of trailing edge thickness on aerodynamic performance of wind turbine airfoil.The calculation results show that airfoil trailing edge thickness is added,with the increase of tailing edge thickness,lift coefficient and drag coefficient increase,and the airfoil separation delay.After that,these airfoils with thicker trailing edge are applied wind turbine blade,Cp and electric energy production are increased.The results will be referenced for design optimization of 5 megawatt wind turbine blade.
