Wind Resources Uncertainty Modeling and Energy Production
Uncertainties in wind resources and estimated Annual Energy production are crucial factors in assessing the financial viability of any wind farm project.Wind resource estimates are useful only if their uncertainty is well defined; therefore In-depth understandings of uncertainty sources are important for estimating energy production and increasing the project value. The uncertainty numbers are expressed as percent of the speed and represent the standard error of a normal distribution.Wind resources uncertainties are attributable due to wind speed measurements, historical climate adjustment, future climate deviations, wind shear, wind flow modeling and spatial wind resource distribution. The objective of this paper is to develop better understanding of the wind resources uncertainty structure, and improvise the estimated Annual Energy Production. The approach in this paper yields more accurate and objective accounting of uncertainties, and may represent a true P50 figure which would lead and help to make better decision while assessing potential wind farm locations.
