Study on Performance Evaluation of the Small Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine

This paper reports the result of new developed 3kw small HAWT.This small HAWT has the special hub which is composed of double pitch control mechanism.The field test to this HAWT has been carried out during three years.The output of small HAWT changes in high frequency.Generally,the bin method is used to estimate the performance of small HAWT.But,recently,the ability of pc becomes high level.The voltage and current are measured at one second interval,and the computer soft EXCEL is used to calculate the data of one minute average,ten minutes average,one hour average,one day average and one month average.Fig.1 shows the experimental device and the view of experimental field.Fig.2 shows one day average data during one month in October,2010.Fig.3 shows one hour average data in December 5,2011.Fig.4 shows one minute average data in 10~11 o`clock,September 17,2012.The results of HAWT are finally estimated by the data of output co-efficient Cp.Cp=9.8W/1/2qAV*3,q:air density,A: area of rotor,V: wind speed/sec.Figures 3 and 4 show output co-efficient Cp.Both,Cp data are little different.Which data is better to discuss the efficiency of small HAWT ? This problem is discussed in this paper.
