Advanced Material Systems for High Performance PM Applications
The desire to increase power density and torque with same or smaller component for automotive and industrial applications continues to increase.Additionally, the demand for lower cost raw materials requires newer alloy systems to be developed. To meet these goals, lean low alloy systems have been developed that work well in combination with lubricant/binder systems that enable compacted densities >7.4 g/cm3.This paper reviews the performance that can be achieved by employing high density processing in combination with advanced lean PM alloys.
