Preparation of titanium by directing of titanium hydride

In this work,pressing and sintering of titanium hydride powders to fabricate bulk titanium were studied.Dehydrogenation of TiH2 was examined by differential thermal analysis.The morphological property was investigated by SEM.The results showed that the relative density of the green body could reach 90%.The hydrogen was removed by heat treating and the content decreased to below 0.02 wt.%.After sintering,the relative density of the specimen reached 99% and high level of mechanical properties (σb=550MPa,δ=13%) were achieved.Preliminary results indicate that powder metallurgy of TiH2 offers an effective way to produce titanium with high density and well-defined microstructure.
