Risk Assessment and Risk Management to facilitate temporary horse movements for international competition
Introduction There have been an increasing number of international equestrian events taking place, including the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil. There is demand for OIE guidance on the health and biosecurity measures appropriate to the planning and implementation of international equestrian events and for the safe international movement of horses.International competition is critical to the ongoing development of the horseracing and equestrian industry. Two major limiting factors to the expansion of international competitions are the logistical difficulties associated with cross border movement and compliance with government requirements for the isolation of competition horses on arrival at the international competition venue.
