Equine Amnionitis and Foetal Loss:Establishing Caterpillars as a Cause of Mare Abortion

Over the past decade,two previously unrecognised forms of equine abortion with similar aetiologyhave been reported:Mare Reproductive Loss Syndrome (MRLS) in the USA and Equine Amnionitis andFoetal Loss (EAFL) in Australia.In both conditions caterpillars have been shown to be the precipitatingagent of abortion.Caterpillar related abortion has been recently suggested as cause of foetal loss incamels.
