Timing of staged percutaneous coronary intervention in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction patients with multivessel disease
Background Over 50% of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients have multivessel disease, which is known to be associated with worse prognosis. The best percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) strategy for those patients has been controversial for a few years.Recently, increasing evidence has suggested that only the infarct-related artery (IRA) should be treated with primary PCI followed by a staged PCI of the non-IRA at a later time. However, the timing of staged PC in STEMI patients with multivessel disease remains unclear.
