Safety and long-term outcomes of unprotected left main coronary artery serious stenosis treated by rapamycin-eluting stent

Background To stent evaluate safety and long-term outcomes of the unprotected left main coronary artery (ULM)serious stenosis treated by rapamycin-eluting.Methods From May 2007 to December 2010, coronary artery angiography (CAG) showed that 36 cases with LM severe stenosis (degree of stenosis was greater than 90%) and without collateral circulation protection (unprotected left main coronary artery serious stenosis) were treated by Rapamycin-eluting stent in our hospital.Among them the male was 19 cases (52.8%) and the female 17 cases (47.2%) with aged 31-80 years old and with mean aged (59.5±12.7) years old.All patients suffered from acute coronary syndrome (2 cases with AMI, 28 cases with unstable angina pectoris and 6cases with NSTEMI).CAG showed 9 cases with the lesions of ostial LM, 10 cases with the lesions in the middle of LM,9 cases with lesions in distal LM and ostial LAD, and 8 cases with lesions involving LCX.17 cases (47.2%) belong to bifurcation lesions and 2 cases with total occlusion of LM.Temporary pacemaker protection was applied in 6 cases.Intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation (IABP) and perfusion balloon were not used in all patients.Among 36 patients with ULM serious stenosis 19 cases were treated by single stenting, 15 cases by the Culotte technique and Crash stenting and2 cases by Crossover LCX or LAD technique.Postoperative patients had took long-term oral aspirin, clopidogrel, CCB and β-blockers.All patients were followed up 19-48 months and with average (31.6±9.0) months.
