Background Sudden cardiac death (SCD) in young athletes is unexpected and tragic, and is usually caused by occult cardiovascular disease and can be triggered by athletic activity.Cardiac conditions associated with sudden cardiac death are problematic as they rarely present clinically, with their initial manifestation often being a fatal event.Thus,identifying cardiac disease at an early age may allow early risk stratification and/or intervention to reduce subsequentSCD.
