TCM and Western medicine in the light of recent advances in molecular biology and molecular medicine
The basic principle of TCM is an approach to the person as a whole individual.Western concept calls to find the material substrate of disease.Due to the rapid progress in biology the cause of disease is seen today not even in the damaged cells but in the molecular defects of genetic apparatus.At first glance, Western methodology completely dominates in modem medicine and a holistic view of human nature and disease forever forgotten.However,paradoxically, it is the latest advances in molecular biology which may combine two seemingly irreconcilable philosophies of medicine.The ability of sequencing of individual genomes makes an individual approach to treatment and prevention of diseases and represents the fundamental basis of personalized medicine.The disease has a material substrate, it”s basis are the very specific changes in cells and macromolecules, but it is the unique characteristics of each person, which determine the possibility of development of this or that disease and the effectiveness of a drug.
