Re-description of Peronia verruculatum (Gastropoda: Pulmonata:Onchidiidae) in Chinese Mainland
Onchidiidae are shell-less pulmonate gastropods, a group ofeuthyneuran gastropods found in the sea, brackish water, fresh water and on land.Systematics of the group is in a state of confusion, and the internal anatomy of most species is still unknown in the world. In the present study, the anatomy of Peronia verruculatum, a marine species living in the middle and lower intertidal zone is described based on 50 specimens. Both the external morphology (mainly dorsal and ventral view) and internal anatomy(mainly the digestive system, the reproductive system and the central nervous system) were efficiently delineated. The radula are illustrated using scanning electron microscopy.Morphological characters of P verruculatum are described in detail in order to provide reference for the description of the other genera of Onchidiidae in China.
