In Search for a Compassionate Centerless World:Kropotkin, Li Shizeng, and the Discursive Formations of Dongwu (animals) in Early Twentieth Century China
The growing scholarships of the loosely defined ”post-humanist studies” in North American academia bring many new perspectives and important questions to humanity studies in general and to the study of modern Chinese literature and cultural history in particular. One main contribution of this group of scholarships is that they start to problematize the concept of species, especially the animal in Western philosophy and culture that, like race, gender, class and etc., serve as a crucial frameof human subjectivities.
