Transverse Impact Behaviors of Glass Warp-knitted Fabric/Foam Sandwich Composites through Carbon Nanotubes Incorporation
Various contents of carbon nanotubes were incorporated in the epoxy matrix, and then the carbon nanotubes reinforced resin matrix, glass warp-knitted fabric and foam were employed to prepare the glass warp-knitted fabric/foam sandwich composites. The transverse impact behaviors of this kind of sandwich composites were reported. The transverse impact behaviors were tested by employing split Hopkinson pressure bar apparatus. The impact damages and the impact load versus displacement curves of the sandwich composites were recorded, through which the energy absorption and the impact damage mechanisms could be analyzed. It could be observed that as the increasing of impact velocity and increasing of carbon nanotubes content, the failure area and energy absorption increased. The main failure modes included foam breakage and the interface delamination between the glass fiber and foam.
A.Glass fiber B.Impact behaviour A.Particle-reinforcement B.Transverse cracking
