Interface properties of carbon nanotube yarn/polyphenylene sulfid(PPS)composites
Carbon nanotube(FCNT)yarn has outstanding high-temperature stability and excellent properties.However,few studies have looked into the interfacial properties.In this article,we report a simple method that combines drafting and shrinking processes to improve the properties of carbon nanotube yarns.In this method,a yarn freshly spun from CVD method passes through a volatile solvent for shrinking with a certain tension.The average pristine FCNT yarn strength,modulus and strain to failure are 115.3MPa,4.8GPa and 25.3%,respectively.The treated yarn consists of densely packed carbon nanotubes has a tensile strength improved,and their interfacial properties in an polyphenylene sulfide(PPS)matrix,are investigated by single fiber tensile tests and microdroplet tests.The effective FCNT/PPS interfacial shear strength is 12.5 MPa.
