Successful management of an aortoesophageal fistula caused by the ingestion of a chicken bone: case report and literature review
Esophageal foreign body is a common clinical emergency, Aortoesophageal fistula(AEF) is a rare but commonly fatal complication of foreign body.Reports of successfully managed eases are few, with high mortality and morbidity usually resulting from failure to control the initial massive haemodynamic insult.Although prognosis is extremely grim, early diagnosis and intervention is considered the optimal means to enhance one”s prognosis.We report a case of AEF caused by a chicken bone that had a successful outcome.There were no postsurgical complications, and the patient recovered without incident.The published data were reviewed to address the issues of optimal diagnostic methods and management of AEF.
