Permanent Reservoir Monitoring with Onshore Surface Seismic
Time-lapse seismic is a proven technology for marine environments but much less so for onshore due to the changing near-surface between recording of the base survey and the monitor survey. These problems can be overcome by using a permanently buried installation. In this paper we describe the results of a permanent seismic monitoring trial in Schoonebeek, over an oil field where EOR with steam injection is applied. It was possible to monitor the spreading of the steam/heat front in great detail and the results were used to update the dynamic reservoir model. The high costs of these installations should be reduced and fiber-optic seismic installations may be a solution to achieve these goals.
