The Finite Element Modeling for Mechanical Feature Analysis of Human Lumbar L4-L5 Segment

In this paper, we propose an approach to calculation and visualization of mechanical features for human lumbar L4-L5 segment.A finite-element analysis model of an intact lumbar L4-L5 segment is formed from a series of CT-scanning images.Axial compressive loads, which simulate the pressure from above, are applied to the FEA, and 10Nm moment are applied in flexion, extension, lateral bending and axial rotation to simulate bending. The simulation calculation shows the stress-strain distribution and deformation of the spine. The finite element method model can help surgeons analyze biomechanical characteristics of lumbar effectively and optimize individual therapy for orthopedic clinical.
