The Impact of Approximate Modeling on Simulation Results
For complex lighting systems such as automotive head lamps and tail lamps, using exact simulation methods to calculate the light distribution or generate photorealistic simulation results can require a lot of time. This paper presents different simulation methods and options to reduce simulation time, as well as information about the effects and limitations of simulation results. It is important to understand which parameters are available in order to find the optimum balance between computation time and simulation accuracy.Balancing simulation speed and precision is the goal of any simulation, and it is possible to improve these using software or hardware options.Hardware can provide remarkable speed increases;however, software methods offer a variety of balancing options and can be leveraged for specific situations. The matter of precision in approximated surfaces modeling methods for simulation should also be considered, and this is addressed within the scope of this paper.
