Discussion on the propagation of tea ceremony from China to Japan --Approach to the study on Shoichi-Kokushi Enni Bennen (聖一国師·円爾弁円)and Sung Merchant Sha Kokumei(谢国明 Ch: Xie Guoming)

  Shoichi-Kokushi Enni Bennen (1202-1280), a Zen monk of the Rinzai sect, was said to have brought from Sung China the Zennon Shingi, the book of disciplinary rule and regulation of life in a Zen monastery.This book introduced Charei, the tea ritual, to Japan, which influenced to the foundation of Japanese tea cultures,Chado.This paper discusses the introduction of tea culture to Japan from the aspect of culture and trade exchange of Sung China and Japan through the life of Enni and his relationship with his Zen master,Bujun Shihan,and a Sung merchant in Hakata,Sha Kokumei.
