What Impacts the RPS Schedule Choices in the USA?
Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) is a regulation that requires the increased production of energy from renewable energy sources, which is designed to encourage the development of clean electricity.RPS schedule can be classified into two categories: ”step-by-step” schedule and ”jumping” schedule.Among the four factors of resource endowment, economic growth, citizen ideology and political pressure, this paper finds out that the economic growth rate is not correlated with the choice of RPS schedule, while resource endowment has significant impact. However, a new variable which is the interaction of citizen ideology and political pressure has even more impact than that from resource endowment.
