Effect of Temperature on Methane Capacity and CO2 Reduction Potential of the Anaerobic Fermentation

This paper focuses on the effect of different temperature on methane capacity and CO2 reduction potential of the anaerobic fermentation.Four anaerobic digesters of 10L capacity have been operated in batch mode at temperature of 19℃, 30℃, 37℃and 52℃, respectively. We can know how the temperature influences the potential of producing methane with anaerobic fermentation of cattle manure. And the result shows when the temperature was 37℃, the fermentation cycle was 22 days, the volumetric biogas production rate was 0.76 m3/m3·d, the biogas production yield was 0.31m3/kg TS, and the average content of methane was 53.59%.Taking methane produced by household biogas digesters of Gansu province into account, the annual emission reduction of carbon dioxide was 2.35× 107t.Thus, it shows that we could using anaerobic treatment with cattle manure at 37℃ for biogas production—the potential of higher productivity of methane and lower productivity of carbon dioxide—to replace the traditional energy supply. And it will have good values of application and promotion in countryside.
