The Summative Evaluation of Business English Major Curriculum in Tertiary Education of China--A Case Study of Beijing Wuzi University
Within the situation that English language is more and more popular in international business communication due to the globalization of world economy, there is an increasing demand for those who are equipped both with good English language competence and adequate business-related knowledge to satisfy the market.Therefore, the BA business English major course has been designed and implemented for the purpose above for years in China.The present study aims to investigate the effectiveness of current course design, taking Beijing Wuzi University (BWU) as a case.The method adopted is summative evaluation through a combination of assaying the input-output levels, the results of entrance examination as well as the results of TEM 4 and 8, and a triangulation of interviews to teachers, questionnaires to seniors and graduates and classroom observation.It is found that the curriculum in BWU has worked acceptably and basically met the needs of the students and society.Suggestions and adaptations are provided to improve their skills and mastery of business knowledge.
