Consideration of Sorption Abilities of the Coal When Forecasting Absolute Methane Emissions into the Roadway Workings in Hard Coal Mines
The paper presents a method of forecasting absolute methane emissions into the roadway workings driven by the means of heading machines in the hard coal mines.This method was worked out in 2009, using the results of investigations carried out in Central Mining Institute in Katowice (and Polish hard coal mines).This new method comparing to already used-ones, takes additionally into consideration sorption abilities influence, kinetics of methane emission as well as shape and extend of so called ”desorption zone” of the roadway workings.The investigations showed that in Polish conditions the new forecasting method enables to define more accurate the amount of methane emitted into the roadway workings being driven, what is the base for appropriate selection of methane prevention and consequently has substantial impact on the mining works safety.
