Numerical Investigation on Outburst Mechanism of Gassy Coal

  In this paper, a gas pressure coupled code, Rock Failure Process Analysis (RFPA2D), was adopted for numerical simulation of cross-cut coal uncovering in gassy coal seams and the outburst process induced by mining in coal seams containing gas pockets.The simulation results reproduced the entire outburst process from crack initiation, propagation, coalescence until outburst of coal.The integrated effects of geo-stresses, gas pressure and mechanical properties of coal on occurrence of coal outburst were illustrated by the deformation of gassy coal and the stress evolution during the failure process.
