Ecological adaptability of traditional adobe dwellings in The Hexi (Gansu) Corridor

  Hexi Corridor is an important inland area in northwest of China.There is bad climate condition and poor natural environment in local.However, local residents had learned to create ado be dwelling which was harmony with nature.Now in Hexi Corridor, lots of traditional adobe dwellings still exist and are being used in countryside.But along with social and economic development, these dwellings have gradually been abandoned, and they are being in a shrinking status.It seems that the local traditional adobe dwellings gradually lost their vitality and continuity, even disappeared.Therefore, inheriting and improving the local traditional adobe dwellings becomes an urgent issue recently.This paper takes studies on the ecological adaptability of traditional adobe dwellings, it focuses on analyzing how the traditional adobe dwellings adapt the climate, geography and natural resources.Finally, the paper summarizes ecological characteristics of local traditional adobe dwellings.All of these are helpful to develop and regenerate adobe dwellings in Hexi Corridor.
