Assessment of Alternatives of Benzimidazole Fungicides for Management of Tomato Leaf Mould Caused by Cladosporium fulvum

Serious resistance to benzimidazole fungicides has developed in tomato leaf mould disease caused by Cla dosporiumfulvum. In this study, 6 isolates of three different phenotypes of sensitivity to benzimidazole fungicide were used to assess the alternative fungicides.Among the 10 tested candidates, procymidone showed significantly stronger activity inhibiting mycelial growth of C.fulvum with mean EC50 of 0.53 mg/L and kresoxim-methyl showed signifi cantly stronger activity inhibiting conidium germination with mean EC50 of 2.10mg/L.When further evaluatéd in tomato plants, kresoxim-methyl and procymidone showed better curative activity and better protective activity, respec tively. In tomato fields, procymidone, kresoxim-methyl and the mixture of them all provided satisfactory efficacy against C.fulvum.If the potential risk of resistance development was considered, the mixture of procymidone and kresoxim-methyl was a more suitable alternative for management of benzimidazole-resistant C.fulvum.
