Numerical simulation of a self-propelled flying of a with flapping wings

  In the nature,many animals are capable of controlling flow using active or passive deformation ofbody surface,and have more excellent movement performance than man-made vehicles.Their specialmotion can reduce drag force,suppress turbulence and produce much more lift than human understandas a credible method of turbulent flow control.The birds are propelled and lifted by the flapping androtating wings,which is significantly different from the fixed-wing flying,such as airplane,and hard for usto understand.The self-propelled flying of the three dimensional bionic birds are investigated in thisstudy,with a three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics package,which includes the immersedboundary method and the volume of fluid method,the adaptive multi-grid finite volume method,and thecontrol strategy of swimming and flying.
