Low Frequency Electromagnetic Field Promotes Growth and Anagen Progression of Hair Follicles
Object: Many studies suggested that low frequency electromagnetic field (LFEMF) was useful for early healing of wound.Wound healing involve in cutaneous appendage neogenesis such as hair follicle (HF).But LFEMF bioeffects on HF growth have not been fully elucidated. This present study was designed to determine the effects of EMF on hair growth and the role of epidermal stem cells. Methods: C57BL/6 mice were used to make the model of depilation-induced HF cycling, and divided at random into the control group and LFEMF group, and then harvested the skin specimens to assess for hair growth, hair anagen progress and Cytokeratin 15 (CK15) expression. Results: The results showed that, compared to the control, the length and size of hair follicles clearly increased at 9day and 16day,and anagen progression delayed in 1-3days in depilation-induced hair cycle progression, and CK15 expression increased in the follicular bulge region in the LFEMF group. Conclusions: LFEMF was shown to participate in the regulation of the mouse hair growth cycle and could promote the proliferation of the bulge stem cells.
