Effect of Computer Simulation and Animation on Students” Problem Solving in an Undergraduate Engineering Course
This paper presents the results of using computer simulation and animation (CSA) to improve students” problem solving in engineering dynamics,a foundational gateway course that many engineering undergraduates are required to take. The paper describes two representative CSA modules and associated assessment questions.A total of 101 engineering undergraduates in two semesters participated in the present study. The assessment results show that with the CSA modules developed in the present study, students achieved significant learning gains ranging from 48% to 97%.
