Investigating Temporal Interaction Patterns in Networked Collaborative Writing Classrooms

This paper investigates how social interactions unfolded naturalistically in a networked collaborative second language (L2) writing classroom where Face-to-Face (FTF) and online interactional media were intertwined.Temporal patterns provide references for understanding the features of networked classroom environments for students” L2 learning and the nature of collaborative writing, and therefore they provide insights into pedagogical design of computer-supported collaborative writing. The findings of the study confirm 1) the complementary role interactions happened across media,2) the role of social-level interaction toward cognitive development, and 3) the interactional features relevant to L2 writing.
