At Dome Argus, present surface mass balance (SMB) was investigated by 49-stakes from 2008, over a 30×30 km area.Surface density and surface topography was also surveyed during fieldwork. The representativeness analysis suggests 12 and 20 sites are optimum quantities for local and regional studies on SMB.The average SMB was estimated at 22.9±5.9 kg m-2 a-1.This agrees well with the annual SMB from ~1965 to 2009 (21 and 23 kg m-2 a-1) estimated from the β-Radioactivity peaks. The distribution of SMB doesn”t show obvious correlation with elevation or slope, except the west part, where density and SMB are higher than the rest, probably because of the katabatic wind accelerated by topography.Besides, the new surface topography of Dome Argus is generated and we confirmed both peaks of Dome Argus could be considered as the summit of East Antarctica Ice Sheet.
