韓國()稻作文化的性格
This study aims at illuminating typical folk cultural characters of tug of war with straw-rope which are closely related to rice farming, and also at figuring out the development and meaning of the play by villages and its rice farming cultural characters.With rice straw as its main material, the tug of war with straw-rope is a traditional folk play to wish for a good harvest having a strong sense of ritual, shamanism and competition.That insinuates the close regional tie of the distribution of the play with rice farming area.Historically, it is believed that the play had two sources of introduction: one from the Fang dynasty where the play was invented and widely circulated; and the other from south east Asian countries.The unique development and transmission of the play seem to have been influenced in accordance with the development of agriculture, cultivation techniques and a calendar system.In particular, the wide use of transplantation system in late Chosun seems to have contributed to the diffusion of the play.The process of the play in a village unit is as follows: ”collecting rice straw → making straw-rope → turning with straw-rope on the shoulder → straw-rope battle →conjunction with straw-rope → pulling straw-rope → tidying up straw-rope.”This study clearly demonstrates the play”s rice farming cultural characters: circularity as a seasonal custom”view of nature”, ritual as an agricultural ceremony”view of gods”, shamanism as dragon-snake worship”view of gods”, and solidarity as a competition”view of human”.
