Highly efficient energy up-conversion in Er3+-doped BaCl2 Phosphor via simultaneous broadband excitation for solar cells
Broadband excited near-infrared (NIR) to visible up-conversion (UC)provides a new approach to entirely harvest NIR solar energy to apply in solar cells ”1-3”.This is a simulated experiment of broadband excitation in principle. It is found that the visible UC emission intensity is enhanced 2-22 folds upon simultaneous two-wavelength (808 nm + 980 nm) excitation mainly due to synergetic UC mechanism of rare-earth (RE) ions. The results are discussed by using energy cascade diagrams of Er3+ and dependence on irradiation power. The demonstrated results indicate that efficient broadband excited UC process based on RE ions possess the potential for enhancement of the power conversion efficiency (PCE) for next generation solar cells.
