The Effect of Phonon on Dpectroscopic Properties and Energy Transfer Process in Er/Tm Co-doped Bi2O3-Glass
Broadband near-infrared emission has been investigated in Er3+/Tm3+ co-doped two glasses with molar compositions of 65Bi2O3-20B2O3-15Ga2O3 (BBG) and 65Bi2O3-20SiO2-15Ga2O3 (BSG).A broadband emission ranging from 1.35μm to 1.6μm with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 163 nm is obtained in 0.2wt% Er2O3 and 1.0wt% Tm2O3 co-doped BSG glass, while the FWHM of the same concentration Er2O3 and Tm2O3 co-doped BBG glass is only 104 nm.Furthermore, the lifetime of Er3+∶ 4I13/2 and energy transfer efficiency from Er3+ to Tm3+ of BSG glass are higher than those of BBG glass.According to the measured mid-infrared transmittance and Raman spectra, the maximum phonon energy of BSG glass is lower than that of BBG glass. The fluorescence decaying behaviors of Er/Tm∶ BSG and Er/Tm∶ BBG glasses have also been discussed. The present work suggests that Er/Tm co-doped BSG glasses can be a potential candidate for broadband integrated amplifier.
