Greek and Chinese Culture: Similarities and Differences
In this paper, we present the similarities and differences between Greek and Chinese culture; two cultures that are the origins of Western and Far-Eastern civilization and mark the development of two distinctive cultural examples. We examine the distinct socio-economic environment, political system, language and religion that determined a different development of thought, that is, wisdom from one side and philosophy from the other side. However, beyond any differences, the two cultures converge to one point; the firm belief in moral values and the connection of ethics and politics. At least, as this emerges through the thoughts of their two most representative thinkers, who had a profound influence on them, Confucius and Plato. Finally, it is stressed the necessity of studying the two thoughts as well as of a dialogue, that can be beneficial for both parts.
