China in Ferdowsi”s Thoughts
Ancient Iran, as a power which ruled over many lands, dominated peoples of different cultures, and was receptive in turn to their impact, had a strong ties with her neighbors.In fact, the place of ancient lran in the history of the world and her contribution to the history of mankind can be understood only in the light of her Contacts and interactions with her surrounding major powers.One of these great powers was ancient china.On various occasions, lran in the pre-Islamic period had relations with China, and ambassadors from Persia frequently travelled to China.Shahnameh Ferdowsi is one of our sources for understanding these relations between China and Iran in ancient times but despite the growing complexity of active foreign relations with China, Ferdowsi and early Iranian-Muslim writers” thoughts of China and her relations with ancient Iran was Controversial.In fact, Ferdowsi like all his other contemporaries give us little information on china.If we divide Shahnameh into two sections: mythological and historical, it will be difficult to distinguish between China as a historical country and mythical land.Ferdowsi rarely distinguish clearly among eastern Turkestan, China and Far East.For this reason, the purpose of this study is to show where Ferdowsi”s China was and to distinguish between mythical and historical China in his thoughts.
