早期希腊和中国历史写作中的对”他者”的表达

The ancient Greek and Chinese perceptions of foreign peoples invite comparison at some point. As a Chinese studying Greek history I cannot help wondering if it is by sheer coincidence that two of the most distinctive cultures in the ancient world held strikingly similar views of surrounding peoples, dubbing them ”barbarians”.These views have of course been subjects of intensive studies in their respective fields, but comparing them may at least broaden our perspective. In this discussion I propose to have a look at the ways in which foreign peoples are described in early Greek and Chinese historiography and to see if we can draw some general conclusions from the comparison.
