Current Status of the Ethno-medicinal Plants in Viet Nam
The biological resources and medicinal plants in Viet Nam generally are very rich and diverse.Among them,ethno-medicinal plants and traditional medical knowledge are also abundant and play important roles in health care of the ethnic minority people living in the mountain areas.A lot of illnesses or accidents could be treated by ethno-medicinal plants,such as snakebite,post-partum diseases,fertility dysfunction,rheumatism,arthritis,sciatica,kidney diseases,cerebrovascular accident…,especially,there are certain plants used for anti-fertilization.Although these material and non-material resources are rich,they are not inexhaustible.Currently,those precious plants and traditional medical knowledge are gradually facing to degradation and disappearance.There is an urgent need to conserve and record all of necessary related data prior to the current local healers passing on and their experiences are disappeared forever.
