Introduction to Shanghai Tower Structural Design and Construction
The Shanghai Tower is 632m tall,and will be the tallest building in China and the second tallest building in the world.A unique ”Core-Outrigger-Mega Frame” lateral system developed from a traditional ”Core-Outrigger” system is designed in this tower.Steel and Reinforced Concrete (SRC) super columns and box steel belt trusses at mechanical equipment levels form a perimeter Mega Frame to provide additional stiffness and strength to the whole lateral system.The twisting exterior facade is created by an innovative double-skin architectural design.The outer skin is supported on a unique structural system resembling a bicycle wheel in plan.This paper introduce a series of key problem of the structural design in detail,including lateral load resisting system,gravity system,curtain wall supporting structural system,and load bearing capacity of the these structural system under the action of gravity loads,wind load and earthquake load.
