ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY LOW PRESSURE PLASMA NANOCOATINGS FOR MEDICAL FILTRATION AND SEPARATION

Plasma is considered to be the fourth state of matter. In plasma the molecules are decomposed in a mixture of neutral and charged particles that interact with the exposed surface of the substrate. With low pressure plasma a stable and effective plasma at low temperature is generated. In recent years low pressure plasma technology has been improved to achieve specific functionalities on materials: permanent hydrophilic, super-hydrophobic or super-oleophobic.A recent development is the long-term hydrophilic treatment of PTFE with largely improved shelf-life compared to traditional treatments.Liquid repellent nanocoatings exist already for quite some years, but recent improvements in process and machine design allow to deposit high end super-hydrophobic and super-oleophobic nanocoatings with improved oil and water repellency, up to the highest levels. These nanocoating systems find a growing number of applications on new high tech materials. For filtration purposes, the size of the system is adaptable to the need of the customer. The right design is critical to the treatment” s quality and uniformity.
