The application of high internal phase emulsions on enzyme immobilization
In this paper, two models of polymeric supports for enzyme immobilization were synthesized in the form of high internal phase emulsions (HIPE).The poly glycidyl methacrylate (GMA)-Acrylate-2-ethylhexyl acrylate (EHA)-Ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) was activated with glutaraldehyde and then was applied to immobilize pepsin while poly styrene (STY)-divinyl benzene (DVB)-poly glutaraldehyde (PGA) was used to immobilize papain directly. For the poly GMA-EHA-EGDMA,the optimized condition for pepsin immobilization was the 0.05% (w/v) of the concentration of glutaraldehyde and 0.8 mg/mL of the concentration of pepsin. The immobilization efficiency was 78.6%.The highest immobilization efficiency for the poly-STY-DVB-PGA was 79.3% in the optimized conditions of 13.9% PGA and 1.0 mg/mL of the concentration of papain. In summary, polymer materials synthesized by HIPE would be a potential material for enzyme immobilization.
