Moisture-proof and enhanced effect of inorganic coating on porous Si3N4 ceramic
Inorganic coating was fabricated on the surface of the porous Si3N4 ceramic by polymer derived (PD) and spraying technology.The phase of the coating was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD).The surface and cross section of the coating microstructure were analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM).The bending strength and hardness of the materials were measured with electronic universal testing machine and Vickers hardness tester.Water absorption and porosity of the materials were tested by Archimedes method.The results show that the uniform and dense coating which preferably combined with the substrate was fabricated.The bending strength of the porous Si3N4 sprayed the coating increases by more than 18%,and the surface hardness increases by 1.7 times.The apparent porosity of the materials reduces by an average of 97.7%,and water absorption is below 0.5%.Therefore the prepared coating played an obviously moisture-proof and enhanced effect with preferable density.
