Elastic behaviors and high elongation of laminated Ti-TiBw/Ti composites

  A novel laminated Ti-TiBw/Ti composite containing pure Ti layers and TiBw/Ti composites layers has been successfully fabricated by reaction hot pressing.Herein,two multi-scale structures were made that laminated structure in overall material and network distribution structure of reinforcements in the TiBw/Ti composites layers.The laminated Ti-TiBw/Ti composites reveal a superior combination of high strength and high elongation due to multi-<br>  -<br>  <br>  <br>  <br>  <br>  whiskers.The elastic constants of TiBw/Ti composites layers with reinforcement network distribution should beyond the computed results using the HT equation for randomly oriented whiskers,which should fit to the upper limit of Hashin-Shtrikman (H-S) bounds.Meanwhile,the longitudinal and transverse elastic constants of laminated Ti-TiBw/Ti composites can be predicted by series and parallel laws using lamination theory.The experimental data is fit to the overall predicted behavior of the two systems.
