Effect of curing pressure on bonding properties of PMI foam/carbon fiber sandwich structures
Polymethacrylimide (PMI) foam/carbon fiber sandwich structures were cured at 177 with different pressures in an autoclave. The thermal stability, compression and creep deformation under 0.2 and 0.3 MPa pressuresand other properties of different PMI foams were measured. The effect of manufacturing pressure on dimension stability of the PMI foams was also studied via measuring the deformations of PMI core materials with different thicknesses in the autoclave. The tensile strength, shear strength, bending strength and roller peeling strength of PMI foam/carbon fiber sandwich structures manufactured under 0.2 and 0.3 MPa pressures were tested respectively.According to the research work, the Tgs of PMI foams are both above 190 ,and exhibit good thermal stability.PMI foams with higher density possess higher dimension stability. And when higher curing pressure applied, the sandwich composites exhibit higher bonding quality
