The study for contact life of spacecraft relay under inrush current affect

  it is not uncommon that some relays of spacecraft failed due to the contact welding recently.Inrush current, which is caused by capacitive load, does exist when relay is closed, although derating design has been taken account in the use of it.Inrush current may melt and erode the contacts which present potential risks of the failure of relay.In this paper, the erosion of relay contacts by inrush current was studied, the capability of standing against inrush current of spacecraft relay was tested, the mechanics of contacts erosion and welding was also analyzed, so as to aid the proper use of spacecraft relay and to improve the reliability and safety of spacecraft relay usage.
