Experimental study of SF6 and its gas mixtures with CF4 for a high voltage gas circuit breaker
Both gas pressure buildup and post-arc current are vital factors to estimate the arc-quenching property of a circuit breaker. With a 126 kV puffer-type circuit breaker model designed and produced, experiments concentrating on characteristics of gas pressure nearby the nozzle throat and post-arc current are carried out then.SF6/CF4 gas mixtures are adopted as the arc-quenching medium, considering that employing of SF6 is limited in cold region. It is found that gas blow is more intense for SF6 compared with 50%SF6/50%CF4.And increasing θ(current phase corresponding to the moment contacts are separated) or reducing the filling gas pressure P result to increase of post-arc current, in which 50%SFd50%CF4 is higher than SF6 under the same conditions.
