Simulation Research on Physical Characteristics of Low-voltage Switching Arc Plasma Sheath in Air
The development process of the plasma sheath is an important phenomenon for low-voltage switching arc in air.In this paper, a two-dimensional simulation model of low-voltage switching arc plasma sheath is established with VSIM.The physical characteristics of the near cathode sheath are emphatically studied based on PIC-MCC method.After the simulation results being verified by the experimental data in the literature, the effects of cathode spot radius and thermal electron velocity on the particle amount and arc current are analyzed further.And in the meantime, the particle distribution and electric-field distribution inside the sheath are obtained by this simulation method.The method presented in the paper will provide a new idea for the exhaustive study of the microscopic mechanism and macroscopic parameters of plasma sheath.
