The study of preparation technology of geniposide from Fructus Gardeniae and its toxicity in rats
Geniposide, a major iridoid glycoside in Zhi-zi, had been regarded as the main effective component.The purification process of geniposide from Fructus Gardenia by macroporous absorption resin and alumina column chromatography had been studied.And a certain amount of geniposide (purity up to 95%) had been produced for research of geniposide”s potential hepatotoxicity in rats.The hepatotoxicity ofgeniposide was determined with liver enzymes in serum, histopathology ultrastructual preparation.In an acute toxicity study, geniposide at a single dose of 574 mg/kg or more caused hepatic toxicity.The hepatotoxicity often appeared 24-48 hours after the oral administration of geniposide.
