The Metrology Research on the Structure of Oncology Discipline
Since nearly half a century, the incidence of tumors has been an upward trend to be one of the main human lethal diseases, oncology has developed into an emerging discipline, interdisciplinary and the leading discipline complying with it.The scientific metrology methods such as Journal co-citation analysis, Correlation analysis, Multidimensional scaling analysis and Principal component analysis were used in this study.Articles published in top 40 impact factor journals related to oncology from 2008 to 2012 were retrieved from the SCI database based on Journal of Citation Report of Web of Science in 2012.We found, (1) clinical medicine and molecular biology are the source and basic disciplines in oneology development, (2) tumor molecular biology, clinical oncology, tumor epidemiology, radiation oncology, oncology diagnostics and tumor immunology are its main branch disciplines, (3) tumor genetics, tumor pathology, tumor etiology, experimental oneology and epigenetics are its main emerging and interdisciplinary disciplines.In the future, the oncology development need to implement two measures: one is to strengthen basis disciplines and assemble core ones, the other is to promote discipline cross and make a balance development.
